In this post, I’m sharing 6 ways you can get your motivation back to finally reach the goals you’ve been putting off or haven’t been able to achieve just yet.
First off, notice how this post is titled “get your motivation back“. That’s where I’d like to start.
What Took Away Your Motivation in the First Place
When you got the idea of making a change in your life or creating a goal for yourself, big or small, you wanted something in your life to improve in some way.
For example, if you’ve been running a mile in 15 minutes and your goal is to run it in 10, you’re motivated to improve your speed and endurance. (or you just wanna brag about it)
But there are plenty of things in life that keep us from reaching our goals. Then we forget all about them, keep doing what we’re doing. Or worse: we stop doing what we’re already doing altogether.
So why do we do that? Well, for lots of reasons. The outside world has a lot to do with losing our motivation. We’re so busy in our lives and it’s extremely easy to blame it on work or family or relationships and everything else. The biggest excuse is time.
“I could be doing something else right now”
“Ain’t nobody got time for that”
“I’m wasting my time”
That last one though…
We think that we’ll never get to the end and sometimes our goals seem too out of reach in our current circumstances. And you also have outside motivation to not do what you want to accomplish.
Haters.
Or it could even be the very people you trust. Friends and family could potentially be hindering you from achieving your goals without even knowing it. Sometimes our dreams are too “far-fetched” in other people’s minds and dismissing you is the only way they know how to respond. But when that happens, it’s only a reflection on their own lack of motivation in their own lives.
We cannot let others dictate our own motivations and goals in life. Click To Tweet6 Ways To Get Your Motivation Back
At one point, you were motivated enough to make this goal for yourself in the first place. Now it’s just about getting that motivation back. Finish what you started. So here are 6 ways you can do that:
1. Visualize
Visualization using a vision board or writing your goals down. It’s important to decide what your goals are and visualize yourself already having achieved them. Going back to the running-a-mile example, think about how good it will feel after running it in 10 minutes. Shoot, in less than 15 is already an accomplishment! Celebrate your victories, no matter how small. Which brings me to my next point…
2. Your Energy
Change your energy with positive affirmations. Stop all negative talk about yourself immediately. IMMEDIATELY! And start treating yourself with kindness. It doesn’t matter how you do it as long as you’re doing it. And it doesn’t matter if you don’t truly believe them right now. But write down positive thoughts about yourself, speak them out loud into the world. Once you do this more often and more consistently, you’ll start feeling those things come true and start actually believing them. It’s one thing for others to judge you negatively but it’s a whole other story when you’re doing it to yourself.

3. Success Stories
Inspiration from success stories or role models. Do you have someone you look up to or admire? It can be a celebrity, a musician, an author, a pro athlete, or someone in your life you idolize. There’s probably a good reason why they’re thriving in their field and in their life. Or if you don’t have a role model, maybe it’s a good idea to find one and listen to their success story. Everyone started somewhere and you’re starting your success story right now. Everyone’s success story will be different but you’ll find that motivation is what most likely drove them to where they’re at now.
4. Ask Questions
Ask the right questions to the right people, or Google. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Think about doing some research on how you can get to where you want to be. Ask those who’ve already achieved that type of goal or just Google it. The internet can be very helpful, believe it or not. It’s all about finding the right sources and making sure you’re looking in the right places. Maybe you need a little confidence boost, there’s YouTube. Maybe you need a pep talk, that’s why Ted Talks exist. The inspiration is out there, you just need to look for it.
Also… the law of attraction is a real thing.
I personally watch OhhMyAnnie on Youtube, she’s all about manifestation and the law of attraction and that’s where I get most of my motivation from. Check out her channel here, you won’t regret.
5. The Tools
Get the tools you need to reach your goals. Once again, let’s go back to the mile example. You’ve written the goal down and visualized how you’d feel running a mile in 10 minutes. And you’ve also looked up your pro athlete success story and done some research. Maybe you found out what kind of workouts they do (besides running) or the shoes they wear or the diet they’re on. So what tools will you need to achieve that goal? That right there is inspiration and now it’s up to you to get those tools to make it happen. It won’t be exactly the same because you’ll make it your own success story. But also look around you, you may already have the tools you need… you just need to look.
6. Gratitude
Practice gratitude. This one is just as important, if not more so. Practicing gratitude may need to be part of your lifestyle, aside from motivation to reach your goals. When we’re so busy looking to the future and visualizing what you want to achieve, we tend to forget the “right now”. It’s important to appreciate the things you’ve already accomplished, big or small. Ask yourself these questions:
What have I accomplished already by putting in the hard work?
What are 3 goals I’ve made in the past that were reached a long time ago?
Who was there to support those goals to help me achieve them?
What do I have that other people may be struggling to get?

But It’s Not Easy Sometimes
If you’re anything like me, anxiety can sometimes take over and fear begins to creep in. And it’s normal. Even the most successful people had doubts and fears and worries about not making it and not fulfilling their dreams. So take a step back and breathe. It’s ok to not be motivated all the time, 24/7. Your mind and energy need some rest as well so take it easy on yourself. I recently wrote about feeling uninspired and a few ways you can pick yourself up.
Now Go Do It
Now it’s on you. Just do it, get going and reach your goals! Make those goals into reality. You’ve already had the motivation to start so now finish it.
Ok, end of pep talk.
But seriously, you have what it takes so let me know how you do in the comments! Or if you have another way you find motivation to reach your goals, let me know!
